                                          Jack Koncel

A native of Chicago, Jack started playing the violin in the fourth grade
and switched to the double bass at the age of seventeen. He studied
bass with Vladimir Kalina, bassist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
He knew that he had found his instrument and, making rapid progress,
found himself playing in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has also
played bass in the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileria, the Cedar Rapids
Symphony and the Orquestra Sinfonica del estado de Mexico.

A long time interest in the art of luthier brought Jack to Salt Lake City
where he studied at the Violin Making School of America. At this time he
also studied the violin, playing it in the school chamber orchestra. He
has appeared  as soloist with that group performing the Bach A minor
Violin Concerto. Upon graduation in 1988, Jack joined the
Boise
Philharmonic as Principal Bass.

Jack continues building and playing the instruments of the violin family.
He has performed in chamber music recitals at Boise State University
and Albertson College of Idaho, and also with Darkwood Consort. He
has taught bass on the faculties of both BSU and ACI. One of the high
points of Jack’s stay in Idaho has been to work with the McCall
Chamber Orchestra. He looks forward to this every year.
